Vintage Cupboard with Original Bamboo Panels
This vintage cupboard originates from Jiangsu Province in Northern China and dates to around 1920. It has been carefully restored in an artisan workshop we have worked with for many years, where it was refinished in a beautifully distressed paint finish that enhances its character and age.
A distinctive feature of this piece is the use of small bamboo lengths set within the door panels and side panels, adding texture and originality to its design. The two larger upper storage compartments include removable shelves, allowing flexibility for storing taller items when needed, while the smaller lower compartment is accessed via two central sliding doors.
Traditionally, cabinets such as this were used in Chinese kitchens to store fresh and prepared food in a cool, ventilated space. Today, this is a wonderfully versatile piece that works beautifully in a variety of interiors — as a linen cupboard in a bathroom, a cocktail cabinet, freestanding kitchen storage, or a stylish office storage piece. Both practical and characterful, it is ideal for keeping a space beautifully organised.
One off, featuring unique marks and subtle variations that highlight its past life and the careful artistry of its restoration.
